Divorce Recovery Advice: Tip #3 – Divorce Support

One of the best reasons to cultivate supportive relationships as a part of your divorce recovery is that those divorce support resources can provide clear and unbiased advice on keeping you priorities in order!

Many people find divorce devastating both emotionally and financially.  It’s been said that the only financial winners in any divorce are the lawyers for both sides.  The more contested your divorce, the more likely it is that you’re facing legal bills in addition to your everyday living expenses.  The added legal expenses, when combined with the reduction in income as a result of your divorce creates the perfect storm so to speak.  You need support as you recover from your divorce – and you’d LOVE to hire professionals to provide that divorce support.  However, the divorce itself is what is preventing you from being able to AFFORD the professional support you want and need.

Cathy Meyer  in her article Tips To Help You Move On After Divorce offers a piece of excellent advice.

Get a Roommate:
If you are having financial problems consider sharing your space with a roommate. You will feel less lonely and less stressed financially. Make sure it is someone you are compatible with and that you can share activities with outside the home. If you are a single parent, you might consider finding a roommate with children about the same age as your children. Building a bond with another single parent can be a positive experience for you and your child/children.

In the best case scenario, the perfect  roommate may provide both the emotional AND financial support you need as you recover from your divorce.

In the worst case scenario, brining in a roommate will at least lighten the financial burden, freeing up money so you can hire the professional divorce recovery support you need.

So if you haven’t thought of it before now, consider getting a roommate as part of your Divorce Support and Recovery program.

If you’re not already working, you might think about a job (even temporarily) as a receptionist or customer service representative, etc. Notices for these positions are advertised frequently. Although this work does not usually pay high salaries, some money is surely better than no money.
